After landing a couple of commercials as well as guest roles on the television show Mitchell received her first big break when she was cast as Emily Fields in Pretty Little Liars. Fans and critics were awestruck by Mitchell's performance. She then began her screen debut with Dreamland Mother's Day The Possession of Hannah Grace. The psychological thriller You, in which she played the lead role, gained the film more attention. Shay Mitchell's writing abilities have expanded beyond acting. In collaboration with Michaela Blney she co-wrote an adult novel titled Bliss.
